LAS PIÑAS CITY — The Soft Tennis Pilipinas team brought home the gold medal in the mixed team event at the 9th Asian Soft Tennis Championship in Mungyeong, South Korea, on Sept. 22.University of Perpetual Help pride Joseph Arcilla and Samuel Nuguit won in the men’s doubles, while Bien Zoleta and Princess Catindig triumphed in the women’s doubles to help the Philippines clinch its best-of-three tie against China, 2-0, at the Mungyeong International Soft Tennis Stadium.Head coach Michael Enriquez said that after the back-to-back victories of the team, there was no need to play the mixed doubles pair of Patrick Mendoza and Christy Sañosa for the deciding match.The victory also gave the Philippines a ticket to the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.“I congratulate our players who brought home the country’s first gold medal in the Asian Level tournament. The hard work of training is worth it,” Philippine Soft Tennis Association (PSTA) president Lt. Col. Bobby Moran said.To reach the finals, the Philippines scored 2-0 wins against Cambodia in the quarterfinals and India in the semifinals.Before heading to Mungyeong, the Philippine national soft tennis team attended a training camp from Aug. 24 to Sept. 13 in Sunchang, Korea, together with teammates Sherwin Nuguit, Adjuthor Moralde II, Jason Caminting, Shyryn Salazar, Bea Ebriega, Airies Nuguit, and coaches Michael John Enriquez, Josephine Paguyo, Wenifredo De Leon Jr. and Mark Anthony Alcoseba.
