Carlos Alcaraz is through to the third round of the Japan Open after defeating Zizou Bergs in straight sets.

A day after Alcaraz suffered an injury scare in his first-round match against Sebastian Baez, he did not train, but ultimately made the decision with his team to continue his campaign in Tokyo.

The Spaniard, who fell to the floor in pain against Baez, looked healthy enough in his match with Bergs, winning 6-4, 6-2.

After claiming his second victory of the Asian swing with his triumph over the Belgian, Alcaraz gave an update on his ankle injury.

In his on-court interview, the world number one said: “Well, it was, you know, it was tough to be honest. It was a really important day and a half that I had, you know, to recover as good as it can.

“I said before and I’m gonna say it again, I would say I have the best physio the world which I trust 100% and the work he has done for the ankle I think has been great.

“I could play, I would say normally, which is great. I was just sometimes worried about the ankle, but in general I played great tennis, a great match, a good performance for my side.

“Even though, you know, I was thinking about the ankle a little bit, but all around just really happy with my performance.”
