Australian Open 2025: Ben Shelton into semi-finals on good day for USA in Melbourne

American tennis player Ben Shelton took another step into the big time on Wednesday (22 January), by booking his place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Australian Open.

Shelton came through a men's singles quarter-final with Italy's Lorenzo Sonego, winning in four sets: 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4).

The 21st seed will face another Italian, world number one Jannick Sinner next. It'll be Shelton's second semi-final appearance in a grand slam event, after reaching the final four at the US Open in 2023.

Shelton's win came just a few hours after fellow American Madison Keys came from a set down to beat Elina Svitolina and reach the women's singles semis.
