County Championship: Glamorgan complete hard-fought win v Lancs

After a 75-minute rain delay took 20 overs off the day's play, Lancashire made a brisk start to their improbable mission as Australia Test batter Harris and Tom Bailey (16) took their sixth-wicket stand to 53 before Asitha Fernando ripped out Bailey's off-stump with a fine yorker.

Chris Green, who had hit centuries in Lancashire's two previous Championship matches, fell for nine to off-spinner Kellaway as Kiran Carlson took a lobbed bat-pad catch at silly point to leave the hosts 274-7 at lunch.

Glamorgan claimed the key wicket of Harris 10 minutes into the afternoon session as leg-spinner Crane brought Carlson into play again, this time at leg-slip.

Kellaway bowled Hartley for five and after a few blows from James Anderson (12) in a last-wicket stand of 25 with George Balderson (16 not out), Crane hit the captain's off-stump to spark the celebrations.

It was the Welsh side's fifth win in the last eight matches, the other three drawn, after a poor start, and puts them 38 ahead of Lancashire while also extending their advantage over third-placed Derbyshire.

Both sides switch their attention to the One Day Cup, where Lancashire- minus 14 players at the Hundred- host Northants on Tuesday 5 August while Glamorgan face Hampshire at Neath.

Glamorgan's Ben Kellaway told BBC Sport Wales:

"It was a top win, our first at Old Trafford since 1993 so a great achievement for us. They fought pretty pretty hard but we stuck to our guns and held our lengths on a pitch that spun pretty nicely for us, and we got those rewards.

"Bowling that many overs consistently is not something I've had the opportunity to do in red-ball cricket, so I'm really enjoying that role and the battles I'm getting into, as well as bowling in tandem with Mason.

"I had a little (England Lions) camp which was a great opportunity to have a little insight into what things are like, I learned a lot. (Going on a tour) is one of my goals."

Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast added:

"It feels great to win here, the guys played well from day one in a real team performance. Mason Crane in the first innings was exceptional and we dictated from then onwards.

"We want to keep looking up in the table, we want to come first in the division, so if Leicestershire falter, we want to be the ones to catch them, that's the aim. Everyone's contributing and there's a real feel-good feel within the place."

Lancashire coach Steven Croft told BBC Lancashire Sport:

"A lot of the game we had some really good spells and ultimately two poor sessions have cost us the game.

"We didn't play spin particularly well in that first innings, then in the second innings (us) putting the pressure on, the number of bad balls we got, it was harder to keep the catchers in and there was the threat of us getting the runs. It was clear to see that was the right tempo.

"It's been a really good match, we could have bowled them out for 180, we should have done better in the first innings with the bat and we were left chasing our tails, but it's produced a really good game.

"The last six to eight weeks have been really good and we want to keep that going, we lose a lot of players to the Hundred but that gives an opportunity to the younger lads.
