Former captain Babar Azam was recently snubbed from Pakistan's Asia Cup squad.

During an exhibition match between Peshawar Zalmi and Legends XI, Babar Azam was found second best to a former Pakistan spinner as an attempt at a big shot resulted in his embarrassing dismissal. Opening for Peshawar Zalmi, Babar made a fine 41 off 23 balls in his team’s total of 144-all out in 14.4 overs while facing the likes of yesteryear stars like Shoaib Akhtar and Saeed Ajmal.

Babar easily negotiated Akhtar, but the 50-year-old was nowhere close to his menacing best during his heydays when his blistering pace was a stuff of nightmares for batters.

However, Babar, who was recently ignored from Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE, was outfoxed by a 47-year-old former offspinner Ajmal.

After hitting Ajmal for a six, Babar wanted an encore, hoping to hit the former Pakistan cricketer out of the park. He lined up another big shot but missed it comprehensively as his off stump was uprooted.

A delighted Ajmal celebrated with both his arms aloft – a regular sight during his playing career.

Introduced in the sixth over, Ajmal conceded 10 runs off his first four deliveries before getting an important breakthrough for his team.

However, Legends XI, despite the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq scoring an unbeaten 46 off 23, fell short of the target by six runs and finished at 138/6 in 15 overs.

The contest, held at the Imran Khan Stadium, was Babar taking two wickets alongside Muhammad Irfan for Peshawar Zalmi.

The match was held to raise money for those impacted by recent floods in Pakistan.

Ahead of the start of Legends XI’s chase, there was a security breach at the venue with a couple of fans managing to enter the field of play. Even as the officials intervened, one managed to click a selfie with Babar. The pitch invaders were then escorted off the field.

However, right before Irfan was about to start his over, another fan entered the field delaying the start of the match.
