Michael Bevan’s ex-wife reveals surprising detail in daughter’s dress at Australian Cricket Awards

Michael Bevan has been to many Australian Cricket Awards, but there was a touch of familiarity when he attended Monday night’s ceremony with his daughter Amelia.

The legendary one-day batter was officially inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame on Monday after a rule tweak to the governing criteria recognised his efforts in the shorter format compared to his relatively modest Test career.

The 54-year-old brought his daughter Amelia along with him to the Crown Palladium in Melbourne to enjoy the night.

But what might have been missed to the casual observer was that Amelia was actually wearing the exact same dress that her mother and Bevan’s ex-wife Tracy wore to the same event many years ago.

Tracy and Bevan split over 10 years ago, but still remain great friends.

“Milly wearing a dress I wore to the event years ago,” Tracy wrote on Instagram.

“Who wore it best,” she added with a picture of herself in the dress many years ago.

Tracy added that she wanted her daughter to wear an older blue dress

“We tried to get Milly to wear this one but it’s not in great condition unfortunately,” she added.

Michael thanked his family, including his daughters and parents during his speech up at the podium, but didn’t mention his ex-wife, not that she cared.

“I think he forgot someone haha,” she wrote on Instagram.

Tracy was also moved by the way their daughter looked up to Michael and paid tribute to her ex-husband.

“The way Milly looks at him. He was a bloody great player and most definitely deserves being inducted in the Hall of Fame,” she said.

Bevan said it was amazing honour.

“To receive this honour and be part of such a specialist number of players and to be rewarded and recognised for my role and my contribution to both the one-day game and Australian cricket is an amazing feeling and I’m very proud to be up here,” he said.

“I wouldn’t be up here without the support, love and encouragement of my family. Big thanks to my daughters Ameila, who’s here tonight to enjoy the experience, and Olivia.

“And also I’d like to, well I’ll be eternally grateful for the support and encouragement that my mum and step-dad gave me in my formative years to allow me to chase my dream so tonight this is as much as it is for him as it is for me.”

Tracy said her and Michael split amicably after 21 years together.

“There were no lawyers, no one else was involved. It was a decision we made after 21 years together,” she said on Tea with Jules in 2016.

“Mike had stopped playing cricket and I was busy with the McGrath foundation. We were both on two different paths and it was an honest conversation.

“I just said ‘I’m not the right person you need for the next part of your life because this is the road I want to go down and I love you enough to let you go’.

“Now, we actually get along even better. We are really good friends and the girls are really happy.

“I will never regret a single day of my life with Michael Bevan.”
