'Terrible'… Chelsea player admits frustration at his own performance in the 2-1 victory over West Ham

Chelsea’s first-team star was very critical of his own performance in yesterday’s victory over West Ham in the Premier League.

Chelsea produced a comeback win to beat rivals West Ham 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, which lifted them up to fourth in the league table.

Jarrod Bowen put the visitors ahead in the first-half before substitute Pedro Neto equalised in the 64th minute. Eventually, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s own goal gifted the Blues a much-needed three points.

Chelsea fans believe their substitutions shifted the momentum versus West Ham as head coach Enzo Maresca was proactive in making early changes to make an impact.

Now that the winter transfer window is over, the Blues can put their full focus on making the second half of the season a strong one. Their next game is a trip to Brighton on Saturday night in the FA Cup fourth round.

Chelsea player criticises his own performance vs West Ham

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, 21, took to social media straight after Monday night’s win over West Ham to admit he made a poor error.

It was the Blues centre-back who gifted goalscorer Bowen possession for West Ham’s opening goal, but thankfully it didn’t end up costing the team any league points.

“Terrible mistake from me today but I’ll bounce back stronger and thats why you need top players to bail you out,” Colwill wrote on Instagram.

“Massive points tonight. Let’s go Blues.”

Colwill scored poorly in the Chelsea player ratings versus West Ham because of another shaky individual display in the heart of defence. It’s noticeable that the English centre-half has lost a bit of form in recent weeks.

Should Levi Colwill be dropped?

Colwill put in one of his poorest Chelsea performances against Manchester City when the team lost away at the Etihad Stadium last week. Therefore, it was quite disappointing to see him follow that up with another big mistake in the West Ham fixture.

He does a lot of things well at the back with his physical attributes, but this young Chelsea squad is crying out for him to be one of the main leaders.

Even though the 21-year-old youngster is struggling a bit right now for consistency, we doubt his starting position will be under threat moving forward in the upcoming weeks. He’s still the obvious first pick at centre-back.

Tosin Adarabioyo is competing with Chelsea teammate Trevoh Chalobah to start alongside Colwill right now, and it would be a big help if the manager settled on a preferred defensive partnership for an extended period of time.
