Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola picks one word to describe how Mohamed Salah is playing for Liverpool

With the January transfer window now closed, Liverpool are able to fully focus on the football once again.

Fans are understandably frustrated after the Reds embarked on yet another inactive market.

However, with Liverpool looking good for a Premier League title and a push on all four fronts, things could hardly be going better on the pitch.

After getting the crucial two goals at Bournemouth on Saturday, Mohamed Salah has been an enormous reason for that.

As his contract continues to run down at Anfield, Salah has arguably been the best player in world football this season.

Nevertheless, there is a feeling that the Egyptian still does not quite get the credit he deserves for that. So, it’s always nice to hear praise for Mo from a legend of the game. And live on Sky Sports on Monday night, that’s exactly what Salah got from Chelsea great Gianfranco Zola.

Gianfranco Zola hails ‘efficient’ Mohamed Salah

Zola was a terrific player in his day. Creative, graceful and at times untouchable on the pitch, he is one of the most gifted to have ever graced the Premier League.

The Italian was also well known for his longevity, having played a full, 46-game season – scoring 16 goals – for Chelsea at the age of 36.

As a result, he is well placed to comment on what Salah is doing at a youthful 32.

Speaking alongside Jamie Carragher on Sky’s Monday Night Football, Zola claimed that Liverpool’s No.11 is becoming much more ‘efficient’ as he grows more experienced.

“I think we are talking about when you reach a certain age you lose a little bit of strength but you become more efficient,” said the 58-year-old.

“And this is the word I would use with him, he’s become so efficient. Everything he does has a meaning and he is very, very effective.”

Zola weighs in on Salah longevity

Having played at the top of the game until deep into his 30’s – and being of a similar stature to Salah – Zola is well placed to give Mo tips on how to stay effective for so long.

“When you reach a certain age you have to understand that you have to spend more time with your body to rest,” says the former Italy international. “You need to dedicate more time to eat properly and to exercise properly.”

“For him it will be a matter of that, of experimenting of what is good for him and trying to last longer. He can do that because he’s so good.”

As they weigh up whether to give in to his contract demands, perhaps the Liverpool owners should be listening in.

Salah will keep going just like Zola did, of that there is little doubt. Whether it will be at Liverpool or not remains the only question.
