Official: Crystal Palace sign Ben Chilwell on loan from Chelsea

Ben Chilwell was the most high profile member of Chelsea’s expendables who didn’t quite manage to actually escape the club in the summer, but he’s now been rewarded for his patience and professionalism with a loan to Crystal Palace until the end of the season.

Palace don’t have any future considerations attached to the loan so chances are that Chilwell will be back in the summer, but you never know how our circumstances might evolve in the meantime. It’s not like he’s washed up at just 28, and maybe all this time off from competitive football has helped him get over the frequent injury issues that had plagued his time here following our Champions League triumph in 2021. (That feels like a lifetime ago; sigh.)

In any case, Chilly should be of some assistance to Palace, be that on the left flank or as part of a back-three, so hopefully he sees plenty of playing time.
