Our panelists give their predictions for the day 6 matches at the 2025 US Open, including Aryna Sabalenka vs Leylah Fernandez. We have analysis for all of the matches taking place in New York on fantastic Friday.Aryna Sabalenka vs Leylah FernandezTope: Aryna Sabalenka versus Leylah Fernandez presents an exciting rematch of their famous 2021 semi-final encounter which the Canadian won. The world #1 is desperate for her first Grand Slam title this year after losing two finals. Look for her to avenge that 2021 loss with an emphatic win over Fernandez.Prediction: Sabalenka in 2Nurein: Sabalenka has won each of her two matches in straight sets, but weathered a couple of early storms against Rebeka Masarova and Polina Kudermetova. If she is to close out another straight sets victory, the Belarusian will need to mix power with control off both wings. But with Fernandez looking in the best form of her career, she might stretch the top seed.Prediction: Sabalenka in 3Jordan: Incredibly, this is Sabalenka and Fernandez’s first meeting since the Canadian prevailed in their 2021 US Open semifinal. Sabalenka has achieved more success since, but Fernandez played well in the opening two rounds. The world No. 1 is now better equipped to handle her opponent’s style of taking the ball early.Prediction: Sabalenka in 2Ann Li vs Priscilla HonTope: Ann Li will be aiming for a career milestone as she steps onto the court to face Priscilla Hon. The American has a chance to advance to the round of 16 at a major tournament for the first time after that impressive straight-sets win over 16th seed Belinda Bencic.Hon’s success as a qualifier is also somewhat unexpected, fighting back to defeat 17th seed Liudmila Samsonova in a tremendous display of grit. The American is rightly favoured, but the fact that the Australian has already pulled off a significant upset here means she shouldn’t be entirely dismissed.Prediction: Li in 3Nurein: Neither of these two players have reached the second week of a Grand Slam, but this is a priceless opportunity for both. This is a difficult match to predict given how both players exceeded expectations in the previous round. The smart bet would be on the Ann Li who has the steadier and more compact game to sneak through.Prediction: Li in 3Jordan: Both women achieved upsets in the previous round. Hon defeated Liudmila Samsonova, while Li overcame Belinda Bencic. This could go either way, but Li’s dominant forehand makes me give her the edge.Prediction: Li in 3Jasmine Paolini vs Marketa VondrousovaTope: A highly motivated Marketa Vondrousova could potentially upset Jasmine Paolini. The former Wimbledon champion possesses a blend of finesse and intensity that can disrupt even the elite players; the counter-attacking Italian seventh seed must remain sharp and firm. This Czech player won their previous encounter, although that took place on a hard court eight years ago. Paolini has clearly evolved since then, rising to new heights and into the top #10.While many may see the world number eight as the favourite, world number Vondrousova thrives under pressure, and it wouldn’t be surprising if this escalates into a fierce contest if the Czech delivers her best performance.Prediction: Vondrousova in 3Nurein: Paolini is coming off an impressive set of wins, but the latest over Marketa Vondrousova would definitely be her best in this first week. The Italian won’t get the luxury of sitting deep and dictating proceedings, with Vondrousova brining a more nuanced type of tennis that should unsettle the seventh seed.Prediction: Vondrousova in 2Jordan: This could be one of the most entertaining third round matches. Vondrousova will try to use her variety to disrupt the Italian. But Paolini is in great form and I trust her to find a way to win.Prediction: Paolini in 3Barbora Krejcikova vs Emma NavarroTope: Barbora Krejcikova has the opportunity to seek swift retaliation after her title defense at Wimbledon was cut short by Emma Navarro just a few months back.Navarro has moved through the tournament without losing a single set, despite entering the competition with only one victory in her last five matches. Krejcikova has also been perfect thus far and has shown more consistent performance than her American opponent recently. The Czech player is much better prepared for this match than she was during her defeat at Wimbledon last month, and this could likely lead to another match that goes the distance, with the American edging it once again.Prediction: Navarro in 3Nurein: Navarro was in poor form coming to the US Open but a couple of straight sets wins have rekindled her confidence and should be considered the favorite here. Krejcikova hasn’t played a lot of tennis but the Czech is an instinctive shotmaker who doesn’t need a lot of game time to find her rhythm. This will be tight and nervy, with a slight edge to last year’s semifinalist.Prediction: Navarro in 3Jordan: Krejcikova pushed Navarro at Wimbledon a few weeks ago despite being physically hampered. If fully fit, I am backing her craft to beat last year’s US Open semifinalist. The American has mostly struggled against top players this season.Prediction: Krejcikova in 3Main Photo Credit: Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports
