Olympic doubles champion Wang Chuqin steamrolled French teenager Felix Lebrun in straight games 4-0 (11-7, 11-2, 11-5, 11-7) in Beijing on Sunday (5 October) to claim his second WTT Grand Smash title of the year. The reigning world champion achieved the ‘triple crown’ in the process, adding the men’s singles title to his victories in the mixed and men’s doubles at the 2025 World Table Tennis China Smash. Wang did the same at the 2024 Saudi Smash tournament. The paddler from the People’s Republic of China was in cruise control, with Lebrun struggling to find an answer to the onslaught.Lebrun recovered from a brutal second game and looked set to extend the match into the fifth when he took a 6-7 lead. But Wang proved too strong as he levelled matters at 7-7 before scoring four unanswered points to take the title on home soil.In the all-Chinese women’s final, Wang Manyu upset defending champion and world number one Sun Yingsha with a 4-2 (10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-2) victory for a second career WTT Grand Smash title. The match, which pitted the two top-ranked players in the world, delivered on its billing as a mouth-watering spectacle.Olympic champion Sun made a strong start to the contest before Wang changed up her serve to even matters in the second game.Wang found her footing, taking a 3-1 lead before Sun won the fifth game to edge her within a game of levelling the scores. But the world number two would not allow Sun the chance as she streaked ahead in the sixth and final game, claiming a dominant nine-point win for the championship.
