Peter Odemwingie: From football star to pro golfer, still chasing Olympic dreams

1
Peter Odemwingie is a believer in dreaming big. If you have a dream, chase it.

It's the kind of attitude that shaped a memorable football career spanning three decades.

From his youth days in the late 90s to playing for Lille in the 2000s and scoring 30 league goals for West Brom in the Premier League during the 2010s, Odemwingie left a lasting mark.

Internationally, he has represented Nigeria at two World Cups and four Africa Cup of Nations, finishing third in three of those tournaments.

One of his career highlights, though, was an Olympic silver medal at Beijing 2008, narrowly missing out on gold to Argentina.

The 43-year-old may have called time on his football career in 2019, but that has only paved the way for him to follow another dream – this time, it’s golf.

Odemwingie is a new member of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and backs himself to succeed in the sport completely.

“You have to have a dream and chase it, right?” he told BBC Sport.

“I’m going to play in the Open qualifiers next year, it’s possible. I have the talent.”
