‘We have a bit of money’: Bulldogs reveal they are prepared to splash the cash on Silvagni

This masthead revealed on Wednesday that the Bulldogs had emerged as another potential suitor , and Egan confirmed their interest.

Western Bulldogs football boss Matthew Egan says Jack Silvagni is a tremendous talent, and the club has room in its salary cap to pursue the Carlton defender.

“He’s obviously a huge talent, and he played really well against us, to be honest. He played on ‘Naughts’. He is a physical player, and he uses the ball really well,” Egan said on 3AW.

“I am definitely not one in my role to talk about players from other clubs. But I am sure the Sam Powers [Power is the club’s executive manager of men’s football] and Michael Regans [Regan is player acquisition manager] of the club, I hope they are speaking to all free agents because I think we have a bit of money in the salary cap. It would be good to go after some players.”

As an unrestricted free agent, Silvagni can walk to the club of his choice.

The Magpies’ four-year contract offer is worth roughly the same amount – in the mid-$650,000 range – as the Blues have offered to keep him.
