App State Tennis hosts South Alabama for its first home SBC match of the season.The Mountaineers recently secured a road victory over James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. App State earned the doubles point, withandclinching it with a 6-4 win from the No. 3 spot.With a one-point lead heading into singles play, Dada-Mascoll and Cleveland picked up singles victories to put the Mountaineers in a strong position. Despite losses fromandfought through a three-set battle to secure the match, giving the Mountaineers their first SBC win of the season.Dada-Mascoll is currently 8-1 in singles this season, with all wins coming from the No. 1 position.Manyube is off to a strong start, boasting a 7-1 record in singles and 8-1 in doubles. During the SBC opening weekend, Manyube went 4-0 against Old Dominion and James Madison in both singles and doubles, helping propel the Mountaineers to their first SBC win of the season.The Mountaineers are coming off an impressive fall campaign. Dada-Mascoll and Romanichen had a standout season, winning the ITA Conference Masters Championships and qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships—both firsts in program history. The duo earned a national ranking of No. 23, the highest a doubles pair has been ranked in App State history.Dada-Mascoll also qualified for the prestigious ITA All-American Championships, where only the nation's top 128 players compete, showcasing some of the best talent in the country.Last season, App State reached the Sun Belt Championship match for the first time in program history under head coach. The Mountaineers finished the season tying a program record with 15 wins and a 6-5 mark in Sun Belt Conference play, finishing seventh in the standings.South Alabama currently holds a 9-2 overall record (2-0 SBC), most recently defeating Georgia State 4-1 in Mobile, Ala. The Jaguars finished last season with a 16-5 record (8-2 SBC), falling to Old Dominion in the second round of the Sun Belt Championship. South Alabama is currently ranked No. 48 in the nation and returns three players from last year's squad.App State will stay in the High Country to face Southern Miss on Sunday. Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.The 2024-25 tennis season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
