International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy seen at a ground in this undated image. — AFP/fileListen to articleThe Federal Cabinet has reportedly approved the deployment of the military to provide security for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, ensuring the safety of the event,The decision was made under Article 245 of the Constitution, which authorises the military’s involvement in security matters, Express News cited sources.As part of the security arrangements, a joint effort will be made by civil armed forces, police, and other law enforcement agencies to safeguard the teams and venues during the event.The Champions Trophy will see international teams arriving in Pakistan on February 12, and security measures are being put in place in coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the provincial governments of Punjab and Sindh.The Ministry of Interior has issued directives to various departments to ensure top-level security for the teams and officials throughout the duration of the tournament.Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium on Friday, marking a new chapter in its 65-year history, just days before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.The event featured performances by Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, Aima Baig, a drum performance, and fireworks.In his speech, PM Shehbaz praised the efforts of the renovation team, including PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.He humorously referenced the speed of the renovation, joking about "Shehbaz Speed" being replaced by "Mohsin Speed."The PM congratulated Pakistan's cricket team for their recent successes, expressing hope for their victory in the upcoming Champions Trophy, especially against India.
