Jamie Overton, Issy Wong and David Warner join London Spirit in The Hundred

Jamie Overton, Issy Wong and David Warner will play for London Spirit in the Hundred this summer, after being signed today in the The Hundred Draft.

England all-rounder Overton was new Head Coach Justin Langer’s first pick in the men’s competition, while Australians Warner and Ashton Turner will also bring star quality to The Hundred match days at Lord’s this summer.

London Spirit’s women’s team, who are the defending champions, will go into this season with a familiar line-up. They re-signed England captain Heather Knight with their first pick in the draft, before snapping up fast bowler Issy Wong and spinner Rebecca Tyson. It means that nine of the 11 players who started last year’s final will be returning to Lord’s. Australian superstar Grace Harris, who played for London Spirit in 2023, also returns to the side.

England international Wong played at Birmingham Pheonix since the first edition of The Hundred and now moves to St. John’s Wood. Rebecca Tyson makes her The Hundred debut, having worked as a Workforce Development Coach for London Spirit before turning professional last summer after impressing with her bowling in the nets.

Overton joins from Manchester Originals last year and was the first overall pick of the draft. An experienced all-rounder, he brings pace with the ball and power with the bat. New London Spirit captain Kane Williamson will also be able to call upon bowlers Luke Wood and Jafer Chohan and Wayne Madsen in the middle order.

Overton said: “I’m so excited to join London Spirit. It’s always special playing in front of a packed crowd at the Home of Cricket, so to make Lord’s my home ground this August is fantastic. Being the first pick in the draft is obviously an honour, and I can’t wait to show the Spirit fans what I can do with both bat and ball this summer.”

Knight said: “It’s fantastic to be headed back to Lord’s to lead London Spirit for another year in The Hundred. Lifting the trophy in front of a huge crowd of our home supporters last season was a really special moment, and I’m so glad that we’ve managed to keep the majority of our title-winning team together. I can’t wait to be back out in front of our fans at Lord’s, to build on what we started last summer, and to defend our title.”
