Crows hit with fines for ignoring ‘multiple warnings’ from AFL over boots breach

Adelaide has been hit with a $7500 fine for repeated warnings to Ben Keays and Josh Rachele against wearing boots with metal studs, while both players have also been sanctioned.

The AFL on Wednesday confirmed the breaches, with Keays ($5000) and Rachele ($2500) given individual fines separate to the financial penalty handed down on the club.

According to AFL Media, Keays received a heavier fine after being caught wearing metal studs in four more games to Keays’ two since the Crows were given a ‘please explain’ from the AFL in early June.

The $7500 fine will not be included in Adelaide’s soft cap.

AFL executive general manager of football operations Laura Kane said the league were forced to act after the Crow’ repeatedly breached regulations.

“Player health and safety is paramount to the AFL and the wearing of metal stops poses a significant injury risk to other players,” Kane said in a statement.

“Disappointedly, despite multiple warnings, the players elected to wear the incorrect football boots.”
