Estevao Willian on his dramatic impact against Liverpool

After plenty of high-fives, back-slapping and warm embraces from the Chelsea coaching staff and his team-mates, the teenager eventually arrived for his media duties – with the help of a translator – but there was no need to translate his mood. It was obvious from the huge grin etched on his face.

The 'Vamos!' may have subsided, but the delight was still there. You can hardly blame him. Scoring the winner to secure a 2-1 win, after Cody Gakpo's goal had seemed destined to see the points shared after he cancelled out Moises Caicedo's rocket of an opener.

But Estevao had other ideas and given he had just scored the winner against the reigning Premier League champions, his first in the Premier League, it was no surprise that he couldn’t hide his grin in the tight interview room just inside the tunnel at Stamford Bridge!

So, how does a young Brazilian who can’t speak much English find the words to describe what had just occurred moments before this interview? Better hand over to the man himself, then.

‘Oh wow,’ Estevao said, taking a deep exhale of breath as his smile grows wider. ‘I’m just so, so happy.

‘I’m grateful to God, to my family, to all my team-mates, to the coaching staff and to everyone else at the club who has helped me with my football here.

‘It’s an amazing feeling to score my first Premier League goal and in such a big game, I’m just so happy.’

The winger, who wears the No.41 shirt at Chelsea, was introduced from the bench by Enzo Maresca as the clock ticked over to 75 minutes. By the time it hit 95 minutes, he was celebrating his winner as Stamford Bridge erupted into delirium around him.

It was a shrewd move by Maresca to send Estevao on, and the winger explained what the head coach said to him as he prepared to enter the fray.

‘I feel great right now and it’s so good that the manager has so much confidence in me,’ added the teenager.

‘When I went on, he told me to just play my own game and to try and make an impact. He told me to try and score or create a goal and thankfully I managed to do that.

‘I’m so happy for him and for all the belief that the manager, Enzo Maresca, has in me.’

It’s been quite the ride for Estevao since he swapped the green of Palmeiras for the blue of Chelsea and the Brazilian has expressed his delight at how things at Stamford Bridge are working out for him so far.

‘Things at Chelsea have gone a lot better so far than I maybe imagined,’ he stated. ‘I feel so good in training every day and I enjoy every moment.

‘I have fantastic team-mates and coaching staff around me that help me each day, and it’s very helpful that I have my family with me and they’ve helped me really settle into life in England and the Premier League.
