Wolves just tasted their first defeat under Vitor Pereira against high-flyers Nottingham Forest but it isn’t all bad news at Molineux.

A loss at home to Nuno Espirito Santo’s men left Wolves level on points with 18th-place Ipswich Town, who picked up a point at Fulham.

Vitor Pereira’s side now travel to Bristol City for an FA Cup clash this weekend as they aim to go further than their run to the quarter-finals in 2024.

Ahead of the showdown at Ashton Gate, Pereira could welcome his first new signing to the club as he aims to bolster the squad in the January transfer window.

Here is the latest on Wolves’ move for Emmanuel Agbadou and the other top stories at Molineux from Tuesday.

Emmanuel Agbadou could feature in Wolves vs Bristol City

Wolves priority was signing two defenders in the window and they could have first through the door in the shape of Reims centre-back Agbadou.

Last week, the Old Gold agreed a £15m fee for the Ivory Coast international, with the Reims club president confirming Agbadou’s move to Wolves.

Now, Agbadou is set to sign a 4.5-year contract at Molineux once he receives his visa having undergone his medical.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Interestingly, Liam Keen confirmed that Agbadou could be available for Wolves clash against Bristol City this weekend, as supporters prepare to welcome their first signing this month.

Wolves want Chelsea’s Renato Veiga

Funnily enough, it isn’t just a move for Agbadou that Pereira is targeting, with Wolves showing an interest in Chelsea’s Renato Veiga.

The 21-year-old, who was signed by Enzo Maresca for £12 million from FC Basel last year, could move on permanently this month after playing just 184 minutes of Premier League football.

Pereira craves versatility in his squad and Veiga ticks those boxes as he can operate as a centre-back, left-back or central midfielder.

Vitor Pereira criticises Tommy Doyle against Forest

Tommy Doyle made his first start under Pereira as Wolves lost 3-0 against Nottingham Forest.

However, in the absence of Brazilian star Andre, Doyle had a night to forget as he struggled to match his opponents physically.

Pereira even claimed Doyle went ‘missing’ against Forest, criticising the Englishman in his post-match interview.

“Doyle was missing,” Pereira said. “To play against this kind of team — the tactical knowledge to be connected with Joao (Gomes). Sometimes, they were in the same line, not in different lines.”

Matheus Cunha verbally agrees new contract

It’s been a nervous wait for most Wolves fans but it appears Matheus Cunha’s contract saga could have a happy ending.

There were fears that the 25-year-old would depart this month as Arsenal wanted a transfer for Cunha however, the Old Gold remained firm in their stance that he isn’t for sale.

Now, supporters will delighted to hear that Cunha has verbally agreed a new contract at Wolves ahead of signing an improved four-year deal.

The only downside is Wolves have agreed a reported relegation release clause of £45 million, which further emphasises the importance of staying in the Premier League.
