Manchester United would love to sign another left wing back in 2025 and one target appears to be top of Ruben Amorim’s wish list.Manchester United are unlikely to do much business in this January transfer window.Ruben Amorim’s squad needs serious work but United just aren’t in a position to strike a deal.United’s £100million summer net spend means there isn’t much room in the budget right now.Amorim is therefore expecting a quiet window but he will certainly have targets in mind for later in the year.Amorim has brought his 3-4-3 system to Old Trafford and adding another wing back on the left side will be vital.Photo by Aurelien Meunier – PSG/PSG via Getty ImagesNuno Mendes stance on Manchester United moveDiogo Dalot was praised by Amorim after the 2-2 draw at Liverpool but isn’t a natural option on the left side.A natural left-footer is needed with Amorim seemingly not viewing Tyrell Malacia as a key player.MORE UNITED STORIESThe one name which simply won’t go away right now is Nuno Mendes.Paris Saint-Germain ace Mendes was one of a handful of Sporting debutants under Amorim as he rose through the youth ranks.Reports earlier this week suggested that United have held discussions to sign Mendes.Foot Mercato in France now claim that Mendes is ‘very interested’ in the idea of signing for United. It’s stated that Mendes is ‘not satisfied’ with PSG’s latest contract offer with his deal set to expire in the summer of 2026.Kylian Mbappe was quoted by Record as saying that Mendes is a simply ‘extraordinary’ and ‘magnificent’ player and he seemingly wants to be paid like one.“Nuno Mendes, left-footed, 19 years old. He’s an extraordinary young man. I didn’t know him very well, only from Football Manager, because of the talents I follow. What he does is magnificent,” said Mbappe in 2021.The report adds that United won’t make a move in January but will be ready to make a move at the end of the season.Establishing Mendes’ interest in the move is one hurdle cleared but United must still come up with considerable money to sign the Portugal star.Don’t rule out a Nuno Mendes swapUnited’s budget is limited this month and it’s more likely that a summer deal is pursued unless United get creative.Offloading players would be needed this month but raising big money won’t be easy.Jonny Evans has been linked with Rangers whilst Saudi Arabian interest in Casemiro has returned. Those moves would take money off the wage bill but are unlikely to bring in huge fees to fund a Mendes deal. One other avenue would be an exchange with reports suggesting that Alejandro Garnacho has been discussed in talks with PSG.Garnacho hasn’t exactly impressed in the early weeks of the Amorim era and he doesn’t really have a defined role under the new boss.Garnacho isn’t a wing back or an attacking midfielder and he may need to modify his game – or move on.United may well be willing to let Garnacho leave in order to bring in a natural fit for Amorim’s approach and a swap for Mendes may become increasingly appealing.
