Last Updated:September 10, 2025, 09:46 ISTMumbai sessions court fined Prithvi Shaw Rs 100 for not replying to Sapna Gill's molestation case plea. Next hearing is December 16, 2025.A sessions court in Mumbai on Tuesday imposed a token cost of Rs 100 on Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw for failing to file his reply in a case filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill, who has accused him of molestation.Gill had moved the Dindoshi sessions court in April 2024, filing a criminal revision petition against an earlier magistrate’s order. The magistrate court had refused to direct police to register an FIR against Shaw, instead ordering only a preliminary enquiry. The sessions court had repeatedly asked Shaw to respond to Gill’s petition. During the last hearing, the court had already warned that it was giving him one final opportunity to submit his reply. On Tuesday, the court noted that no response had still been filed. The judge observed: “Still, one more chance is granted for a cost of Rs 100," before adjourning the matter to December 16.Gill’s lawyer, Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan, argued that Shaw was deliberately avoiding the judicial process. “This has been his regular way of handling the case despite being summoned many times," Khan told the court. The Background of the CaseThe case stems from an altercation on February 15, 2023, at a pub in Andheri, Mumbai.According to police accounts, the trouble began when Gill’s friend, Shobit Thakur, repeatedly asked Shaw for selfies around 1 a.m. Shaw initially obliged but later refused further requests, leading to an argument.Thakur was reportedly asked to leave the premises. Later, when Shaw was leaving with his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav, the situation escalated. Thakur was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat, while Shaw managed to escape unharmed. Yadav, however, was chased by a group of six individuals, including Thakur and Gill. The group allegedly threatened him and demanded ₹50,000.Police registered a case against the group, and Sapna Gill was detained on February 17, 2023, before being released on bail three days later.Gill’s Counter-ComplaintGill has maintained a different version of events. In her complaint, she alleged that Shaw and Yadav had invited her and Thakur to join them at their VIP table for drinks. She claimed that after Thakur requested selfies, Shaw and Yadav assaulted him. When she intervened, Gill accused Shaw of physically and sexually assaulting her. She later filed a counter-complaint, charging the cricketer with assault, molestation, and outraging her modesty.Where the Case Stands NowThe magistrate court had refused to register an FIR against Shaw based on Gill’s complaint and instead ordered a police enquiry. Dissatisfied, Gill approached the sessions court, which is now hearing her plea. With Shaw yet to file his response, the court has imposed a token penalty of Rs 100 and extended one final opportunity for him to comply. The next hearing is scheduled for December 16, 2025.Get latest Cricket news, live score and match results on News18.
