The Reds have the EFL Cup Final against Newcastle on Sunday, which is an immediate concern, but beyond that, Liverpool have only got nine Premier League matches still to play, making it likely that any significant lay-off could be pivotal for Trent. We now know he won't play in the Champions League again this season following Liverpool's elimination on penalty kicks.

The last time we see Trent in Liverpool colours? Of course, if Trent is out for the remainder of the season, then whether Liverpool fans are aware of the fact, we may never see him wearing the red shirt again. Liverpool are currently in negotiations with him over his expiring contract, which will end on June 1, meaning he will leave the club and become a permanent free agent for other clubs to talk to if he fails to re-sign. As one of the team's few Scouse homegrown players, it would mark an incredibly sad situation for the club, but for the fans, they would have to get used to not seeing the world-class right-back playing for them.

Real Madrid have been eyeing up a move for the player all season, and it seems fair to suggest that Trent's reluctance to sign a contract extension has been in direct correlation to the Spanish giants' interest in him. As such, it is a very real possibility that this might have been Trent's last match for us, which is a sombre thought to say the least.
