Litton Das suffers injury scare before Bangladesh’s Super 4 clash vs India

Bangladesh were dealt an injury scare ahead of their crucial Asia Cup Super Four clash against India on Wednesday, September 24, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Skipper Litton Das picked up a blow to his left rib during practice in Dubai.

He remained on the ground for some time as BCB doctor and team physio Bayzid ul Islam attended to him. Litton later got up and watched the session from the sidelines but did not return to bat after the incident.

"We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call," a BCB official told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

Who can replace Litton Das?

Bangladesh have not appointed a vice-captain for the series, leaving a question mark over who would step in as stand-in leader if Litton is ruled out. In terms of team balance, Parvez Hossain Emon is the likely replacement in the XI, though it is still uncertain whether he will open the batting.

Litton has been a key figure in Bangladesh’s batting unit, scoring 119 runs in four matches at an average of 29.75 and a strike rate of 129.34, with a top score of 59 against Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Towhid Hridoy has been the team’s leading run-scorer so far, amassing 127 runs from four innings, including a highest of 58.

Before reaching the Super Four, Bangladesh defeated Hong Kong and Afghanistan in the group stage. Then, in their first Super Four match, they beat Sri Lanka after half-centuries from Hridoy and Saif Hassan. The Tigers remain well in the race for the final.

In such a situation, an in-form captain Litton is very important for Bangladesh. The Tigers are currently placed second in the Super Four table with two points and a net run rate of +0.121.
