India’s experienced duo of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni delivered a dominant performance to storm into the doubles quarterfinals at the Maha Open 2025 tennis tournament on Wednesday.

The Indian pair outplayed Belgium’s Michael Geerts and Britain’s Billy Harris with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 victory at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium.

The top-seeded Indian duo of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth also booked their spot in the quarter-finals after defeating Denmark’s August Holmgren and Elmer Moller 6-3, 7(9)-6(7).

This sets up an all-Indian quarterfinal clash between Myneni-Ramanathan and Nedunchezhiyan-Prashanth.

Meanwhile, India’s Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Zimbabwe’s Courtney John Lock combined well to edge past the Canadian pair of Alexis Galarneau and Kelsey Stevenson, winning the match 6-4, 7(7)-6(1).

However, in a major upset, the Russian duo of Petr Bar Biryukov and Ilia Simakin stunned third-seeded Anirudh Chandrasekar and Chinese Taipei’s Ray Ho, clinching a tight 7(7)-6(3), 6(5)-7(7), 10-4 victory.

Other Indian tennis players in doubles, including wildcards Siddhant Banthia, Parikshit Somani, Karan Singh and Nitin Kumar Sinha, all lost their respective matches.

In the singles draw, eighth-seeded Alexis Galarneau of Canada secured his quarter-final spot by defeating wildcard Michael Geerts of Belgium 6-4, 6-4.

Defending champion Valentin Vacherot of Monaco ended Japanese qualifier Masamichi Imamura’s run with a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win in just over an hour.

Czechia’s Dalibor Svrcina produced a strong performance, rallying past Austria’s Jurij Rodionov 6-4, 7-5 while Ilia Simakin outclassed Australia’s James McCabe 6-2, 6-4 to seal his place in the last eight.
