The International Cricket Council announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month for August 2025 on September 8, and this time, fast bowlers dominated the chart. The shortlist includes three fast bowlers, including India’s Mohammed Siraj, nominated for the honor.

Apart from Mohammed Siraj, New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry and West Indies pacer Jayden Seales have also been shortlisted for the ICC Player of the Month for August 2025 for their impressive performances during the month.

Mohammed Siraj’s heroics in England secure ICC Player of the Month nomination

Mohammed Siraj played only one Test match in August, but his performance was outstanding. The Indian pacer impressed one and all with his remarkable performance in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at The Oval.

Mohammed Siraj scalped nine wickets in the final Test at an average of 21.11. With India’s premier pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah rested, Siraj took charge and bowled over 46 overs across both innings. He picked four wickets in the first innings and five in the second and helped India secure a 2-2 series draw.

Siraj had shown the nerves of steel and scalped the three wickets on the final day to play a crucial role in India’s memorable six-run triumph at The Oval. Mohammed Siraj's match-winning efforts against England in the final Test earned him the Player of the Match award last month.

Matt Henry’s masterclass leads New Zealand to 2-0 series sweep over Zimbabwe

The second nominee is Matt Henry, who was the key player in New Zealand’s 2-0 Test series win over Zimbabwe. Henry took 16 wickets in two Test matches at an average of just 9.12.

In the first Test, the New Zealand fast bowler took six wickets in the first innings and three more in the second essay. Matt finished the first test with impressive figures of 9/90 and went on to win the Player of the Match award.

He continued his stunning form in the second Test, where he scalped five wickets in the first innings and two more in the second, and helped New Zealand to beat Zimbabwe by an innings and 359 runs in August 2025.

Jayden Seales ends Pakistan’s ODI dominance with sensational spell

The final nominee is the West Indies pacer Jayden Seales. He was an X-factor in the West Indies’ historic ODI series win over Pakistan, which was their first in 34 years. Seales took 10 wickets in three matches at an average of 10 and an economy of 4.10 to help the West Indies script the history.

After a not-so-impressive start in the first ODI match, where he took one wicket for 59 runs, Seales bounced back in the second match by taking three wickets in seven overs, including the big wickets of Babar Azam and Saim Ayub. Seales delivered his best performance in the third ODI.

Seales claimed 6 wickets for just 18 runs—the third-best figures by a West Indies bowler in ODI history—and helped the Men in Maroon to beat Pakistan by 200 runs to clinch the series 2-1.
