With the high-stakes Madrid Derby now behind them, Atlético Madrid defender Clément Lenglet is focused on climbing the LaLiga table. In an exclusive interview with SuperSport, the former Premier League centre-back opened up about the demanding tactical world of coach Diego Simeone and the immediate mission for the Rojiblancos.Lenglet was clear about the team’s current objective, admitting the start of the season hasn't been smooth sailing."The start of the season, of course, is about collecting as many points as possible so we can climb up the table and get back to where we deserve to be," Lenglet said."This season, we have to prove on the pitch that we’re better than our opponents and continue earning points.”“We’ll give our best as soon as possible. The start wasn’t great, but we need to keep fighting and find a way to turn things around."The French international also offered insight into working with the notoriously fiery and tactical manager, Diego Simeone."It’s amazing," Lenglet said of his coach."He’s one of the best coaches in the world and has such a big personality. From a football point of view, we always need to stay focused and disciplined because he understands the game so well.”“He teaches us a lot about tactics and strategy and always provides the best lessons for his players."Having played in England in the Premier League for both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, Lenglet is perfectly positioned to compare the top two leagues in Europe, highlighting the stark difference in playing styles."One of the biggest differences is the intensity," he said."In the Premier League, the tempo is very high, when you face teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, or Chelsea, the intensity is at its maximum."He contrasted this with the Spanish top flight, where tactical intelligence reigns supreme."In LaLiga, the game is a bit different—it’s more tactical because the intensity is slightly lower, which allows for more technical play. I think the two leagues are completely different in style."When asked who his closest ally is in the dressing room, Lenglet didn't hesitate, naming a fellow French international."My best friend is Antoine [Griezmann]. We’ve played many games together at Barcelona and with the national team, so we’ve built a strong friendship. He has a great personality and is very funny."Atlético Madrid will look to carry the momentum from their recent derby win into their next match against Celta Vigo.Catch Atlético Madrid v Celta Vigo LIVE on SuperSport, on 5 October at 9pm SA Time.
