Plymouth Argyle vs Stockport Recap: Greens get second league win of season

Argyle clinched a second consecutive League One win at Home Park as they produced an excellent display of attacking football in a 4-2 victory over Stockport County. There were encouraging signs that Tom Cleveley’s young Pilgrims’ side are finally starting to click into gear after a very difficult start to the season, in which they lost five of their opening six games.

They followed up a 1-0 defeat of Blackpool in their previous home league game a fortnight earlier with a much more confident performance in front of a jubilant 15,000-strong Green Army. Click on the link below to read my full match report:

Dale shoots wide

Owen Dale is playing in the number 10 role behind Lorent Tolaj and has just had his first scoring chance for Argyle but sent the ball wide of the goal.

Boateng has next Argyle opportunity

Stockport skipper Ollie Norwood has a shot from outside the Argyle penalty area and the bal is kicked awaty by Luca Ashby-Hammond.

Then after a quick break from Argyle, Bradley Ibrahim sets up Malachi Boateng who sends his shot wide of the goal.

Two chances for Argyle

Bradley Ibrahim is encouraged by the Green Army to shoot from fully 30 yards out and he does, forcing a high sav out of Corey Addai, who makes alow stop from Bali Mumba soon afterwards.

Ibrahim goes close

Bali Mumba gets on the ball on the Argyle left and plays it inside to Bradley Ibrahim, who works it onto his left foot and sends a shot just wide of the far post.

Chance for Tolaj

Bali Mumba makes an excellent run in behind the Stockport defence and cuts the ball back to Lorent Tolaj but the striker cannot come up with the finish.

Argyle take 3-1 lead

Bradley Ibrahim scores with an excellent low shot from outside the Stockport penalty area, with the ball clipping the inside of Corey Addai's right post as it went into the net.

Joe Edwards is deep in conversation with referee Neil Hair as they walk off the pitch after Stockport were awarded a late penalty which they scored from to trail by one goal at the interval.

Stockport get one back

Stockport get a goal back in the first minute of added time at the end of the first half. They are awarded a penalty after Argyle's Bradley Ibrahim challenged with Nathan Lowe for the ball after a deep corner. Ollie Norwood trhen sends Luca Ashby-Hammond the wrong way with the spot kick.

Argyle take the lead

The opening goal of the game comes in the 24th minute when Matty Sorinola swings in a corner from the Argyle left and Stockport striker Kyle Wootton, back defending insidde his own box, heads the ball into his own net as he tussles for it with Bradley Ibrahim.
