Curtis Jones joked that Brighton & Hove Albion could “have Alexis Mac Allister back” before the Liverpool midfielder faced his former side.Liverpool visited the Amex Stadium last week for a Carabao Cup encounter in which Mac Allister came off the bench for Arne Slot’s side. Starting the game was the in-form Jones, who played the full 90 minutes as his side won 3-2 to seal a place in the quarter-finals.But the England U21s star had his fair share of fun in the lead-up to the game - at the expense of team-mate Mac Allister. As the Liverpool players made their way out of the tunnel to begin their pre-match warm-up, Mac Allister bumped into two Brighton members of staff that he recognised. The Argentine shared hugs with the two ladies, one of whom said: “Nice to see you, we missed you!” He was left blushing and team-mate Darwin Nunez could be seen chuckling in response.Jones, who was walking behind them, overheard the interaction and joked with a deadpan expression: “You can have him back.” Brighton did not have to wait long to see their former playmaker again, travelling to Anfield last Saturday for a Premier League fixture which they lost 2-1 after a spirited Liverpool comeback. And Jones’ comment was all in jest as the 23-year-old revealed last season that he had learned a very handy skill from Mac Allister, who arrived in the summer of 2023 for £35million. Jones specifically lauded the World Cup winner’s use of his body, notably his bottom, while keeping possession.Asked what he had learned from his new team-mates, Jones went full Yaya Toure - who's regularly discussed the benefits of utilising the backside - by saying: "Mac Allister, I'll speak on him. He comes in and how he protects the ball, I've never seen before."He can receive the ball and does this thing where he sticks his bum out a little bit and you can't take the ball from him. So I'm thinking, just his experience, he knows when he's going to get pressed and the way he moves."Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
