Barcelona decide on Marcus Rashford squad number, Man Utd outcast to follow in the footsteps of icons

The Marcus Rashford transfer saga is set to come to an end for at least one year.

After falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim, Marcus Rashford was sent on loan to Aston Villa in January.

Rashford’s loan spell came to an end on 30th June as Villa decided against making his move permanent.

However, it was always believed that Rashford dreamed of a move to Barcelona. The La Liga giants had other targets, but it’s Rashford who is now headed to the Camp Nou.

Rashford had been training alone at the Carrington complex amid his pursuit of a new club this summer, with Amorim opting not to include the England international in pre-season preparations.

An agreement has been struck between United and Barcelona that will see Rashford join Barcelona on a 12-month loan deal with an option to buy. The player’s price tag is set at £30.3 million, and it is understood Barcelona will cover his wages.

Marcus Rashford gets iconic Barcelona shirt number

Not only will Rashford get his dream move to Barcelona this summer, it looks like he will be wearing an iconic squad number at Camp Nou next season.

The Catalan giants are yet to officially confirm the deal, but an announcement on Rashford’s Old Trafford exit is understood to be imminent.

According to Mundo Deportivo, it has already been decided that Rashford will wear the number 14 shirt at Barcelona. That means he will wear the same number as club legends Johan Cruyff and Thierry Henry.

The report claims: “The Catalan club has already decided on the number it will assign to the England international winger. And it’s not just any number for the football myth: it will be the Barça shirt with the number 14 on the back. It’s Johan Cruyff’s number at Ajax and with the Dutch national team, and that of his idol Thierry Henry.”

With pre-season underway, Rashford won’t want to wait too much longer until he is revealed as a Barcelona player.

Other Barcelona icons to wear No. 14

Rashford is already in esteemed company with Cruyff and Henry for the No. 14 shirt at Barcelona.

Apart from those two, the #14 was worn by legends such as Ronald Koeman and Javier Mascherano.

Rashford will hope that he can prove himself at Barcelona and earn a permanent move to the club.

The England international has gone from wearing the number 10 shirt at United, which was recently given to new signing Matheus Cunha.
