Flamboyant opener Abhishek Sharma won the men’s ICC Player of the Month award for September 2025 following his Player of the Series-winning exploits during the Indian cricket team’s Asia Cup triumph last month.

The hard-hitting left-hander won the Player of the Month award ahead of Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett and teammate Kuldeep Yadav, who was the top wicket-taker in the Asia Cup with 17 scalps.

Abhishek Sharma was in sensational form during the Asia Cup 2025, finishing the tournament as its leading scorer with 314 runs in seven matches at an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 200.

“It feels great to win this ICC award and I am happy that it has come for some important matches that I could help win,” Abhishek Sharma said. “I am proud to be part of a team that can pull off victories from the most difficult of situations. Our recent track record in T20Is reflects our outstanding team culture and positive mindset.

“I thank the team management for their guidance and to all my teammates for their support. I am also thankful to the panel that selected me for this award,” he added.

The 25-year-old batter also broke the T20I rating points record in the ICC men’s player rankings thanks to his Asia Cup performances last month.

The No. 1 batter in the T20I format, Abhishek Sharma has reached 931 ratings points, which is 12 more than the previous best rating of 919 attained by England’s Dawid Malan in 2020.

Abhishek Sharma has scored 849 T20I runs in 24 matches at an average of 36.91 and a strike rate of 196.07 for India so far. He has also hit two hundreds for the Men in Blue, including a top score of 135 off 54 balls against England earlier this year.
