STORRS, CT – UConn r-senior Skyler Bell (Bronx, NY) was named this week's winner of the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

Bell caught eight passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns as the Huskies improved to 4-0 at home this season with a 38-19 win over UAB, earning bowl eligibility for the second consecutive season and third time in four years under head coach Jim Mora. Bell tied his career-high with three TD grabs and raised his season total to 11 touchdown grabs this season, tying the UConn school record for TD catches in a season. It is the most by a Husky during the FBS era.

Bell hit the 100-yards receiving mark for the third-straight game and sixth time this season. It was his 10th 100-yard game at UConn. He has caught a touchdown in six-straight games and has three games this season with two or more scores. He is among the nation's leaders in receiving this season, ranking 1st in catches (74) and TD catches (11), 2nd in rec yards (994), yards per game (110.4), and catches per game (8.22).

For the eleventh straight year, the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation is the presenting sponsor for both the weekly and end-of-year Gold Helmet Awards presented to student-athletes from FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III institutions throughout New England. The awards will be presented at the NEFW Captains and Awards Banquet on December 11, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center.
