It was previously the club's away results that were concerning but now things aren't looking great for the manager at Ibrox either.

Earlier this month Gers crashed of the Scottish Cup following a monumental upset at the hands of Callum Davidson's Queen's Park.

The Light Blues returned to Ibrox for the first time since that game yesterday and it was a similarly disappointing afternoon for supporters.

Clement's side were stunned yet again at home, this time by Stephen Robinson's St Mirren.

The Saints managed to get the better of Rangers through an aggressive approach, with star man Olusanyi dropped to allow the physical pairing of Mikael Mandron and Jonah Ayunga to press Gers' backline.

And it worked a treat as the hosts struggled to play the ball out from the back, with both players putting serious pressure on the likes of Robin Propper and Clinton Nsiala.

Both strikers found the net as well to take a 2-0 win back to Paisley.

It was the perfect performance from Robinson's side.

But Rangers hero Neil McCann has hit out at Clement for shaping his team up too "negatively" against the Saints.

Speaking at full-time, Clement admitted his players were nervous at the back and why St Mirren got a lot of joy playing higher up and on the frontfoot.

But McCann insists it was the manager's tactics that were to blame.

He told BBC Sportscene: “It’s a huge concern. You can talk about nerves but this is negative and that’s got to come from the manager.

“That ball should be going down the line to keep St Mirren in, this negative throwback from Jefte allows St Mirren to do that aggressive press. Now Nsiala must find Raskin, Raskin’s asking for it but he has to demand it, want the ball there.

“Then it’s a rollback to Butland, then back to Nsiala, the first pass is to Jefte but he doesn’t and goes into Raskin. What has Butland got on then?

“You have to work on these things, if you’re going to play out from the back, you have to find solutions, you have to work on what-ifs.

"I feel that Rangers over the last few games, there’s a lack of spark. I don’t think it’s nerves, it has to be demanded from the sidelines.”

How they rated Rangers: Jack Butland 2, James Tavernier 2, Robin Propper 2, Clinton Nsiala 2, Jefte 2, Mohamed Diomande 2, Nico Raskin 2, Vaclav Cerny 3, Ianis Hagi 2, Hamza Igamane 3, Cyriel Dessers 2 Subs: (Igamane 58, Danilo 2) (Diomande 73, Lawrence 2) (Hagi 73, Bajrami 2) St Mirren:, Zach Hemming 8, Ryan Alebiosu 8, Marcus Fraser 8, Alex Gogic 9, Richard Taylor 8, Declan John 8, Killian Phillips 8, Mark O’Hara 9, Caolan Boyd-Munce 8, Jonah Ayunga 8, Mikael Mandron 9 Subs: (Alebiosu 65, Bwomono 4) (Ayunga 65, Olusanya 5) (Boyd-Munce 65, Smyth 5) (Phillips 76, Kiltie 4) (John 90, Tanser 2)

Last month McCann refused to give a definitive answer on whether he believes Clement should be sacked.

He was still on the fence at the time but admitted the manager was under serious pressure.

But yesterday's defeat to St Mirren was the last straw.

“I really am not sure that he survives this one,” he said.

“I hate to see people lose their job, but he looked a broken man at the end of that. He looked down.

"As a manager you’ve got to empower your team, you’ve got to emanate there’s a confidence, you can change things, plus you’ve got to show fans that you can change games in play.

“I think there’s lots there that are contributing, I think he will come under pressure again tonight.”
