Chelsea enter their next Premier League game knowing a win is imperative following a tough few weeks of action and two consecutive defeats.

The unfortunate thing is they are set to face Liverpool, who currently sit top of the Premier League ahead of their visit to Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca is feeling the heat from Chelsea fans after losses to Manchester United and Brighton, however he will rightly point to the fact that they have not finished either game with 11 men on the pitch.

The Chelsea Chronicle have predicted that Romeo Lavia will start the game for the Blues, with his last major impact being in the game against Liverpool last season.

Chelsea can break unwanted 11-year record against Liverpool

After Arne Slot’s side had already won the Premier League when they visited West London last season, however the Blues needed a win to help secure Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.

A 3-1 victory followed, and now the Blues have the chance to make it back-to-back wins against Liverpool in all competitions.

This has not been the case since 2014, when Gary Cahill and Diego Costa scored to send Chelsea to a 2-1 win at Anfield to make it three wins in a row.

After an underwhelming set of results to start the season, a victory against the league leaders would be a real statement to the rest of the league that they should be taken seriously this season.

A good time to face Liverpool

If there is ever a good time to face Liverpool, Maresca’s side may have hit the jackpot when looking at the situation their upcoming opponents are in.

The Reds are off the back of consecutive defeats for just the second time since Slot took over, and are set to be without some key players for the game.

The manager already confirmed that Alisson will miss the game following an injury suffered against Galatasaray in the Champions League.
