Newcastle United's best line-up after window shuts, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa unleashed

Newcastle United have finished the transfer window without Alexander Isak, but Eddie Howe has secured two major attacking additions.

The transfer window is now over and Newcastle United must plough on without Alexander Isak.

Isak completed his move to Liverpool late on deadline day, securing the switch to Anfield he has wanted for weeks.

Isak has said goodbye to Newcastle, though few Magpies fans are in the mood to give him a warm send-off.

The Magpies at least ended the window on a high, as Yoane Wissa completed his move to Newcastle on deadline day.

Newcastle also signed Nick Woltemade last week, bringing the German forward in from Stuttgart to bolster Eddie Howe’s attack.

Newcastle United’s best XI after summer transfer window

Newcastle added a new goalkeeper in Aaron Ramsdale, but as things stand, Nick Pope is the man between the sticks for the Magpies.

With everybody fit, Howe can call upon two of the top young English full-backs around in Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

Livramento attracted interest from Manchester City, but the window has closed with the right-back still at St James’ Park.

Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are the experienced heads at the back and may get the nod ahead of Sven Botman and summer signing Malick Thiaw – for now at least.

Botman and Thiaw will push for starting action over the course of the season, but Howe is likely to go with his tried-and-tested pairing of Schar and Burn for the foreseeable future.

Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are nailed on to play if they are fit and available, but there is real flexibility around them.

Joelinton could join them in a strong midfield, while new signing Jacob Ramsey could offer more attacking thrust.

Alternatively, recent arrival Nick Woltemade could drop in as a number 10 behind Yoane Wissa.

Both Woltemade and Wissa are flexible attackers who can drop in, drift wide or run in behind, and they could form a dangerous pairing in attack if unleashed together.

Anthony Gordon on the left and Anthony Elanga on the right could then be the approach for Newcastle, with Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy as strong competition.

Newcastle United blessed with options

Losing Isak to Liverpool hurts, of course, but Newcastle have options.

Woltemade may not play every single game as he adjusts to English football, but landing a proven Premier League attacker in Wissa makes that easier to stomach.

Wissa could play out wide to support Woltemade from the flanks, with both of those new forwards able to play in different positions.

Howe even switched to play with three centre-backs at Leeds, something he could do on a regular basis with four strong centre-backs at his disposal.

Livramento can play on either side, Kieran Trippier can still make an impact, and Lewis Miley is another option in midfield.

Ramsey’s versatility to play in central midfield, as a number 10 or on the left flank will also be important over the course of the season.

This Newcastle squad provides Howe with tactical flexibility, and we could see the Magpies boss chop and change his options with regularity over the season.
