Agents say Man United were pressured into striking Benjamin Sesko deal 'way too soon'

Manchester United completed their attacking overhaul in the summer by striking a big-money deal for Benjamin Sesko.

The priority over the summer transfer window was to add goals to Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United squad, and Ineos delivered three top-class signings.

First through the door was Matheus Cunha, followed by a lengthy transfer saga for Bryan Mbeumo. Towards the end of the window, a £73m deal for Benjamin Sesko was struck.

Sesko has made a fantastic start at United, with two goals in his last two games. He was brought in to replace Rasmus Hojlund and has already achieved half of the Dane’s Premier League goal tally from last season.

Amorim insists Sesko will stay for years at United, meaning he is very much viewed as a long-term signing. Considering he is only 22 years old, that was always going to be the case.

Hojlund suffered last season because he was often United’s only option up front, and at such a young age, he often struggled to cope with the responsibility.

Instead of signing an experienced striker this summer, Ineos’ transfer strategy at United has been to sign young players with high potential, and they stuck to that with the Benjamin Sesko deal.

However, it has led to some suggestions that United might have jumped the gun and signed the Slovenian too early.

As per The Athletic, they questioned 20 football agents, and anonymously, they criticised the Sesko deal.

“Way too much money and much too soon,” said one agent. A second added: “They were pressurised into making that signing.

“A lot of money for not much of a pedigree,” said a third agent.

Benjamin Sesko can prove haters wrong at Man United

Since his move to Manchester, Sesko has displayed an elite mentality, and that is exactly what it takes to survive the spotlight at United.

It was important that he hit the ground running, and after a few frustrating weeks on the bench, he has now cemented his spot in Amorim’s starting XI.

United can feel positive about Sesko and his potential. Unlike Hojlund, he is surrounded by talented attackers in Mbeumo, Cunha and Bruno Fernandes who should help to shoulder some of the goalscoring responsibility.

Amorim is pleased with Sesko’s start, and he seems to be a good tactical fit for the Portuguese’s style of play.

There is a lot of noise and expectation around Sesko, but that lays a brilliant foundation for him to prove his critics wrong.
