Big Bash star reported for alleged lewd celebration during Sydney grade match

New South Wales and Sydney Sixers cricketer Joel Davies is facing the prospect of punishment following an alleged lewd send-off while celebrating a wicket during a first-grade match in Sydney.

During Sunday’s T20 contest between Sydney University and Manly Warringah, the 22-year-old appeared to thrust his hips in the batter’s direction following a dismissal, stumped by wicketkeeper Jay Lenton.

Umpires did not report Davies for the alleged send-off, but Cricket NSW has since confirmed that Davies has since been reported for a suspected breach of the code of conduct. He is yet to be charged.

Fox Cricket understands that Davies has asserted he was not imitating a sex act, but was rather paying tribute to NBA superstar Joel Embiid, who popularised a similar celebration.

Davies, the younger brother of fellow Blues player Ollie, has represented the Sydney Sixers in ten Big Bash League games since his debut in 2023, scoring 52 runs and taking a wicket for the men in magenta.
