Bournemouth are ready to make their move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in a bid to beat the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham to his signature.

The 26-year-old has been with the Reds since 2015 and has established himself as an impressively reliable understudy for Alisson Becker, but that is the position he is no longer happy with.

The Republic of Ireland international has made 65 appearances for the club, but has only ever been deputising for the Brazilian or given a starting role in cup competitions.

Kelleher’s contract expires next year but he is likely to leave Anfield this summer in search of regular first team football, with the Reds happy to cash in on him and allow him to depart.

There will be no shortage of suitors for the highly-rated stopper, with The Sun reporting that Bournemouth, Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle are all keen on him.

They may not be the biggest name on that list, but the Cherries are confident they can beat their rivals in the race for the Irishman.

Bournemouth’s current first choice ‘keeper is on-loan Chelsea man Kepa Arrizabalaga, but there is no deal in place to sign the Spaniard permanently.

Kelleher is a realistic option for the Cherries, with Liverpool reportedly wanting £30m for the 20-cap Ireland international.

He would get the first team football he desires at the Vitality Stadium, with Bournemouth light on goalkeepers behind Kepa as Neto and Mark Travers are both out on loan.

Tottenham and Newcastle both have clear first choice goalkeepers in Guglielmo Vicario and Nick Pope respectively, although Pope has suffered with a number of injuries in recent years.

Chelsea may well sign a goalkeeper this summer as both their options in net have proved unreliable so far this season.

Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have both turned out for the Blues in the Premier League this campaign and neither have looked particularly impressive.

Chelsea may look to upgrade in the next transfer window and although the Sun’s report states they are interested in Kelleher, they are not committing to making a bid at this stage, unlike Bournemouth.

Liverpool secured the signing of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili last summer, set to arrive in the next transfer window, which appeared to confirm to Kelleher that his future is elsewhere.

‘I’ve made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one and play week in, week out,’ the Irishman said in September last year.

‘The club’s made that decision to get another goalkeeper and from the outside looking in, it looks like they’ve made a decision to go in a different direction.

‘My ambition is clear that I think I’m good enough and I want to go out and prove it.’
