A Galway GAA club is leading the tributes after the death of a beloved local man who is the father of the club's chairperson.

The east Galway ladies football club, Menlough Skehana LGFA, was amongst the first to offer their condolences to Niall Brennan, Chairperson of Menlough GAA, over the death of his father Michael.

Michael Brennan, late of Windfield, Moylough, Co Galway, died at UHG surrounded by his loving family on Sunday 16 March.

The Brennan family is deeply involved with GAA in the east of the county.

Along with Michael's son Niall chairing the LGFA club, Michael's niece Kellie was also a prominent former player with Menlough Skehana LGFA and served as a physio to the side during last year's championship.

The club paid a touching tribute to Michael Brennan: "Menlough Skehana LGFA would like to offer our sincere sympathies to Niall Brennan (Chairperson of Menlough GAA), and his family, on the sad passing of his father Michael.

"We also extend our sympathies to Michael’s niece Kellie, a past player of ours, who also covered many of our games last year as our physio.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May Michael’s soul rest in peace."

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."

Locals remember someone who was "always helpful" and a "lovely man to meet". Michael was a "true gentleman" who "loved to stop for a chat".

Michael Brennan is remembered as someone "you could rely on", and "always obliging" when it came to helping others. Many remeber him as a "great friend".

Michael will repose at Gilmore's Funeral Home in Moylough on Wednesday evening 19 March from 5pm until 8pm, followed by removal to his home at Windfield.

Requiem Mass for Michael will take place on Thursday 20 March at 12 pm in St. Mary's Church, Menlough. Funeral afterwards to Moylough Cemetery.
