Aussie tennis star Destanee Aiava hit back at several fans on social media who disgracefully appeared to body shame her.

The 24-year-old took to X to call out one comment, that claimed she 'needed to lose some weight to get more quick on her feet'. The comment has since been deleted.

Aiava replied to the post stating: 'Good job triggering my ED [eating disorder]'

The Victorian tennis star, who is currently ranked No 195 on the WTA Tour today secured victory in her second-round qualifying match against Hungarian star Panna Udvardy, sealing the win 6-4 6-1.

The disgusting comments came after journalist Ben Rothenberg had shared an image showing that Aiava was wearing a pink Nike dress that matched the one Maria Sharapova wore at the 2012 US Open during her first day of qualifying.

Rothenberg noted the moment writing: 'Fun archival fashioin moment: Destanee Aiava is wearing the same pink Nike dress design for her 2025 Australian Open Qualifiers match that Maria Sharapova wore way back at the 2012 US Open.'

The 24-year-old Aussie superstar hit back at the comments but received a surprise response

Aiava responded to one comment body shaming her, writing: 'Good job triggering my ED'

Aiava, who made her Grand Slam main-draw debut at the 2017 Australian Open, first hit out at the comment, before an unexpected moment took place.

'"Not to hate" or "body shame" and then you went and hated and body shamed,' Aiava wrote following the post.

But a twist in the saga would ensue, with Aiava receiving an apology from the X user.

'Hey Destanee,' the user began.

'I was rooting for you only and I have been following your matches for the last 2-3 years! It was just out of concern and nothing else!

'I am extremely Sorry if it did hurt you, love your game and u as a person!'

The X user added two 'love heart' emojis, with the 24-year-old tennis star accepting the apology.

She wrote: 'Thank you for your apology,' adding a 'hugging' emoji and a heart emoji.

Aiava added another message hitting back at the comment, before the X user would issue an apology

The individual wrote that they were: 'extremely sorry if their comments hurt' Aiava, who subsequently thanked the person for their apology

It came after Ben Rothenberg had published several images online showcasing that Aiava had worn a similar style dress to what Maria Sharapova wore at the 2012 US Open

Sadly another individual posted a horrible comment on the post, with Aiava again hitting out at the X user

Sadly, other X users took to the platform to send the Aussie star some horrid messages.

Aiava, though, called another fan out, screenshotting the individual's profile and their comment.

Writing in response to Rothenberg's post, the X user wrote: 'OMG, why would she wear a dress that doesn't suit her at all? She made a mess of the outfit with her inappropriate body, her bulges covering the dress design, OMG.'

But Aiava responded: 'Math isn't mathing, stand on business and don't be a hypocrite xo.'

Aiava has enjoyed a fast start to this year's Australian Open Qualifying, also beating 10th seed Anna Bogdan 6-4 6-2 on the 1573 Arena.

Earlier this week, Aiava sparked some controversy after she appeared to hit out at the culture surrounding the Australian United Cup team's culture.

She revealed that there had been some aggressive and selfish behaviour from her team-mates that had made her feel uneasy in camp.

In a YouTube video titled, 'My honest experience' she gave an in-depth review of the week, claiming it was 'weird and felt hostile'.

Earlier this week, Aiava spoke out on the atmosphere of Australia's Untied Cup team claiming that it had been 'unwelcoming'

On Wednesday, Aiava secured a berth in the third round of the Australian Open after beating Panna Udvardy of Hungary (pictured)

While she admitted she had 'a good time at the event' the 24-year-old said that the team felt 'unwelcoming'.

'I understand that we're in a competitive environment, but I thought being in a team, playing a team event, it would feel a bit different,' Aiava said.

She did not feature in any live games, with Australia failing to reach the knockout stages after missing out on a first-place finish in their group to Great Britain.

Aiava Returns to Melbourne Park on Thursday to take on Eva Lys in the third round of the women's singles qualifiers on Court 3.
