Man Utd legends' brutal WhatsApp group 'hammering' stars includes current player

Manchester United legends have a WhatsApp group where they regularly "hammer" the current team amid their difficult season, according to Rio Ferdinand.

Ex-United stars like Ferdinand have not held back about United in recent years, with the likes of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes often ripping into the team after a poor performance.

With the Red Devils currently 12th in the Premier League, there has been plenty of frustrations from former players like Ferdinand - who were so successful during the glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferdinand has revealed that he and a batch of United alumni have joined a WhatsApp group called 'Band of Brothers' that has helped them stay in touch by discussing the team's struggles while also teasing each other.

The ex-centre-back revealed old team-mates Edwin van der Sar, Wayne Rooney, Nani, Patrice Evra, Tom Cleverley, Anderson, Danny Welbeck and even current United star Jonny Evans are all members.

"We hammer each other," he said, on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents. "It's active constantly. Wazza was the last person who spoke in there. It's called 'Band of Brothers'. I can't tell you the next bit, it won't make the cut. It's just hammering the United team.

"Look, lads are just hammering them through the game. 'He's not good enough'. I love it. It just keeps me connected to the lads."

Ferdinand, who has been a vocal critic of the United team in recent years on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, spoke of how the ex-players liked to hammer each other too - and said Van der Sar might leave the chat soon because it's "not for him".

He also claimed Evans, who played for United when Ferdinand and Co were at Old Trafford and is still among the squad, was a member of the group and had witnessed the criticism of the current team.

"You've got the younger lads like Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, and then there's Nani and Anderson," he added. "You know who joined recently? Edwin van der Sar. I think he's going to delete himself soon because the chat ain't for him. I don't think he knows how to send gifs.

"Who else is in there? Jonny Evans is in there, who's currently playing. Some of the stuff that goes on... Patrice Evra gets mullered, hammered all the time. We hammer each other."
