Reports: Titans to hire Chiefs’ Mike Borgonzi as next general manager

Multiple reports indicate that the Tennessee Titans intend to hire Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi as their next general manager.

Borgonzi has spent the last 16 seasons with Kansas City, beginning as the club’s college scouting administrator in 2009 and working his way up from there — from that role to the manager of football operations (2010) to a pro personnel scout (2011-12) to the assistant director of pro scouting (2013-14) to a co-director of player personnel (2015-16) to the director of player personnel (2017) to the director of football operations (2018-20).

Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi is heading to the Titans. Let's take a quick look at the 2013 Chiefs' front office.

In 2021, Borgonzi was named Kansas City’s assistant general manager under Brett Veach, the role he has had for the last four seasons. Once referred to as the Chiefs’ “secret weapon” by NFL Network analyst AP lobbyist Peter Schrager, he was named a general manager candidate to watch by CBS Sports back in 2020. He’s previously been tied to open jobs for both the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots. In this cycle, he had interviews with the New York Jets and the Titans, who made the decision to hire him.

Borgonzi last addressed the media at training camp in mid-August.

“The last few years, I think we’ve done a good job in the draft adding talent,” he said. “These guys are playing right away — [and] going into their second and third seasons now. When you draft well, you don’t have to bring in so many guys from the outside. I think that’s really a credit to the college staff — throughout the season — for putting together good drafts.”

Borgonzi replaces former Titans general manager Ran Carthon, who held the position for two seasons. Tennessee currently holds the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, so, as they say, the Titans are already “on the clock.”

Senior director of player personnel Mike Bradway is the most likely candidate to replace Borgonzi as Kansas City’s assistant general manager.
