Venus Williams Is Engaged

Congratulations are in order for Venus Williams, who just revealed she’s engaged. The tennis star confirmed the news in a interview after winning her singles match at the D.C. Open on Tuesday.

Speaking to the winner on the court post-game, Rennae Stubbs asked Williams about her relationship with actor Andrea Preti — and seemingly broke the news. “You’re now an engaged woman,” Stubbs said. “So, how much has Andrea helped you in this comeback? You’re happy, the smile on your face. I mean, how much has he made a difference in your life?”

Williams — who, indeed, looked extremely happy — responded, “Yes, my fiancé is here,” prompting cheers from the audience. Williams said it was Preti’s first time seeing her compete, adding that he “really encouraged” her to keep playing. “Do you know how hard it is to play tennis?” she said. “You guys don’t know how much work goes into this — it’s nine-to-five, except you’re running the whole time.”

The pair were first publicly linked last July, when they were scene vacationing together on the Amalfi Coast, according to People. About six months later, they sparked engagement rumors after Williams was spotted wearing a diamond ring. Maybe they can get a double date on the books with Serena and Alexis soon?
