Manchester United stance on Ruben Amorim's future after Brentford defeat

The pressure on Ruben Amorim has increased at Man Utd following another disappointing performance against Brentford.

Ruben Amorim retains the backing of Manchester United's board after defeat to Brentford.

Amorim was hoping to win back-to-back Premier League games for the first time against Brentford, but United suffered a further setback at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Club sources have said Amorim retains the backing of Old Trafford decision-makers and no replacement is being lined up.

Last month, United were forced to clarify that Amorim would not be axed after losing against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

The win against Chelsea improved the mood, but United were unable to build on that result against Brentford. Amorim has won just 34 points from a possible 99 in the top flight during his time in charge.

Speaking after Brentford, Amorim said: "I know guys. We talk about this every time our team lose [basic mistakes]. We need to work on a lot of things. And again today, my biggest concern is we didn't settle down the game in the final third.

"We missed a lot of crosses. We suffered goals in transition that we knew during the week and work on that. So that is the things that we need to improve."

Amorim was asked how United will improve and responded: "We work on everything. The frustration is that every goal, the goals today, we work on that during the week. That is frustrating.

"We can do better with the ball. We can have more control. We can understand that sometimes when the decisions are not in our favour, the momentum is not in our favour.

"We can control the ball. We can settle down the game. That is something that I know this team can do. But when everything, the moments, the penalty, the foul before the first goal, all these things are against us.

"We need to have more personality to control the games, calm down the games and then to play better. I'm sure you're not suggesting that the referee's decision contributed to the final result."

Erik ten Hag survived the October international break at the beginning of last season, but the Dutchman was dismissed by Ineos shortly after the resumption of domestic football.

United play Sunderland at Old Trafford before the October international break begins.
