Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford has responded to an incident at Barcelona, while United boss Ruben Amorim has reiterated his commitment to the club

Manchester United were able to savour their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea over the weekend. Ruben Amorim’s side were given an early gift after Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off but United were forced to fight for the win at Old Trafford after Casemiro’s dismissal at the end of the first half.

Amorim would have enjoyed his side earning an important three points as United aim to build momentum. After the Chelsea result, Amorim was asked about one of his predecessors after Jose Mourinho was appointed the new Benfica manager last week.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo played a minor role in the club’s victory, replacing club captain and goal scorer Bruno Fernandes in the 87th minute. Former United defender Phil Jones has questioned Mainoo’s place in the pecking order and suggested that the England international could soon look to move on from the Red Devils.

One player who has already left Old Trafford is Marcus Rashford after sealing his loan move to Barcelona this summer. The La Liga champions have the option to make Rashford’s switch permanent for £26million and the England international demonstrated his ability with an impressive brace against Newcastle United last week.

However, Rashford was reportedly dropped by manager Hansi Flick on Sunday after turning up late to training. Here, Mirror Football takes a closer look at these stories surrounding United.

Marcus Rashford reacts to Barcelona snub

Rashford may not have expected to start Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Getafe on the bench after scoring a Champions League brace in his previous outing. The 27-year-old’s performance sent a clear reminder of what United are missing out on after agreeing to loan out the forward for a second time.

However, The Athletic reported that Rashford was not included in Barcelona’s starting lineup against Getafe after turning up late to training on the day of the match. His Barcelona team-mates Raphinha, Jules Kounde and Inaki Pena have all previously fallen foul of the same rule in the past.

Despite beginning the game against Getafe on the bench, Rashford quickly made up for lost time after replacing Raphina at the break. The United loanee took just 17 minutes to provide an assist for Dani Olmo as Barcelona completed the 3-0 scoreline as he provided the perfect response to being dropped to the bench.

For his part, Flick played down any sense of his team selection being because of a disciplinary issue. "For Rashford, it's normal not to play, matches are every three or four days. We have to manage his minutes,” he said. “You saw that with Fermin. He played many minutes, and we have to take that into account. We got three points, 3-0. Everything is great. We must focus on our game."

Ruben Amorim sends clear message

Ruben Amorim sent a clear message to Jose Mourinho after the former United boss was named Bruno Lage’s successor at Benfica. Amorim was linked with the Portuguese giants, where he spent much of his playing career, before Mourinho’s appointment. Following United’s win over Chelsea, Amorim credited Mourinho’s early successes for giving other Portuguese coaches, such as himself, the chance to get top jobs.

"He’s the best Portuguese manager, and that won’t change." Amorim told DAZN Portugal, as reported by A Bola . He’s always been a very special person in our football, but also in the world, and he opened all the doors for us.

"I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Jose Mourinho. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for you in Portugal, and we’re going to enjoy it. But that’s the way it is, and we’ll be here, watching to see what happens, but focused only on Manchester, and that will be my only club."

Man Utd icon makes Kobbie Mainoo claim

Former United defender Phil Jones fears that Amorim’s reluctance to start Kobbie Mainoo could see the midfielder leave the club in the near future. Mainoo saw a loan request rejected during the final days of the summer transfer window, but the 20-year-old has made jus three substitute appearances in the Premier League, with his only start coming against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.

"It just looks like at the minute he’s out of favour. The manager has already come out and stated he's not going to be playing with Bruno," Jones said of Mainoo’s situation on Stadium Astro. "It's going to be him or the other and you're not going to dislodge Bruno in the form that he's in and the way that he carries the team at times with his assists and goals.

"So, he's going to find it difficult for games and United aren't in any European competitions this season. There's not another competition that he might've got some game-time in.

"Time will tell, but I think by Christmas and January time, if he's not had the game time that he'll like, then I'm sure he will be trying to force a loan move."
