Liverpool immediately hold Alexander Isak talks with doctors after record transfer

Alexander Isak is on international duty for Sweden and club and country doctors have been in contact over his condition as he bids to reach full fitness after his transfer to Liverpool

Alexander Isak's fitness will be carefully managed on international duty after the striker completed his Liverpool transfer. The forward completed a £125million move to Anfield on deadline day after an intense saga endured throughout the summer.

After signing on the dotted line, Isak quickly travelled to join up with Sweden for international duty. The Nordic nation take on Slovenia and Kosovo in World Cup qualifiers during the international break.

But there is uncertainty over the role Isak will play. The 25-year-old has trained alone in recent months, steering clear of Newcastle's first team since missing the club's pre-season tour of Asia.

Isak, who has 16 goals in his 52 Sweden caps, is likely to be short of match fitness having not played since the final Premier League match of last season. Understandably Liverpool will be anxious over his involvement having stumped up a British record fee just days ago.

Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has revealed the star striker is happy to have joined up with his international team-mates. The ex-AC Milan forward says he has been in touch with Arne Slot and that medical teams have discussed Isak's situation.

“We will not do any stupid things with him,” he said, per Sport Witness. “He has not had a pre-season with lots of training and matches. He cannot play 90 minutes. We have a plan. He is smiling and happy to be here.

"We always have very good communication with the clubs. I have spoken to their manager. Our doctor has spoken to their doctor. Our physio Ben (Rosen) has spoken to their physio.

"I am happy that the guy is here. It doesn’t matter where the players play as long as they play and that they are happy… and he is extremely happy."

Among Tomasson's priorities is unleashing a talented strikeforce. The ex-Blackburn boss has Viktor Gyokeres at his disposal in addition to Isak.

"When I started, there was a lot of noise about those two - 'Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres cannot play together'," Tomasson said. "Of course they can!

"Great players can always play together. It's my task as the coach to get the right scenery where they can perform and express themselves. And they've been great so far.

"Great characters, great personalities, lovely boys to work with. And they like to score goals. They're living for goals."
