Jays Beat Yankees 6-4

That’s one spring game in the books. Easton Lucas worked two clean innings, picking up three Ks and allowing his only base runner through a hit by pitch of Everson Pereira. Brendon Little was also good, he had a 1-2-3 third inning with a K. Zach Pop can’t do things the easy way. He got two outs before a ground ball single and a walk put the first Yankee in scoring position, but he escaped the jam.

On offence, they jumped Carlos Rodon. Andres Gimemez singled with one out in the first, stole second, and came home on a Vlad single. In the second, Ernie Clement manufactured a run by lining a single, stealing second, advancing on a fly ball, and scoring on a wild pitch. They added one more in the third, with Bo singling and advancing to second on a throwing error and the Kirk bringing him home with a line single. That chased Rodon from the game. Joey Loperfido doubled off reliever Harrison Cohen but Kirk couldn’t score from first. Orelvis Martinez increased the gap to four with an opposite field solo shot in the fourth. It’s good to see him still hammering the ball after his PED suspension.

The starters pretty much came out at that point. The highlights from the remainder:

Mason Fluharty K’d two in a scoreless fifth.

Eric Pardinho fell apart after getting two outs in the sixth, conceding three runs.

Jonathan Lavallee cleaned up and added a scoreless seventh.

Anders Tollhurst gave up the tieing run in the eighth on an Alexander Vargas home run.

Riley Tirotta reached on an error in the eighth. Steward Berroa lined a double to drive him home for what would be the winning RBI, and then advanced on a ground out and scored an insurance run on a wild pitch.

Tolhurst stayed in and secured the win.

All in all a pretty good start to the preseason. And we got to see Chris Bassitt work as a bat boy for coming last in the team’s fantasy football league last season:

Just try to go better than 4-10 on the mound this season, k Chris?
