Before the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2025 game between England and Pakistan in Colombo, both teams maintained a moment of silence. In the 16th game of the tournament, Pakistan will have to upset England as Fatima Sana and her players have to keep their semi-final hopes alive. England, on the other hand, will strive to thump downbeat Pakistan to solidify their campaign in the competition. After playing three matches in the competition, England are in the second spot on the points table with six points earned through three wins in three contests.

Before the start of the match, an exemplary level of respect was seen from both teams as they maintained silence to pay their respects to Pakistan batter Shawaal Zulfiqar's father, who died on October 15. The 20-year-old’s father passed away in Sialkot while she is serving her side in the marquee WODI competition.

England’s batting unit collapses while countering Pakistan’s disciplined bowling

Earlier at the toss, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana emerged triumphant and elected to bowl first. On the spin-friendly track, pacers Fatima Sana and Diana Baig bowled exceptionally and got two wickets while spinners Safia Iqbal and Rameen Shamim picked up two scalps and one wicket apiece. England are reeling at 79/7 after 25 overs, with Charlie Dean (5 off 32) and Emily Arlott (1 off 11) at the crease.

From England, Heather Knight scored the highest runs for her team as she scored 18 runs off 17 balls. Besides Knight, Sophia Dunkley (11 off 21) and Alice Capsey (16 off 43) also scored in double digits. Rain interrupted the game as the match stopped after 25 overs of the innings. If the game resumes, Pakistan will look to bundle out England as soon as possible and get the low target.
