Figo Would Like Pedri to Betray Barcelona and Join Real Madrid

Portuguese legend Luis Figo, who left an unforgettable mark at both Barcelona and Real Madrid, has once again sparked debate about potential transfers between the two Spanish giants. Speaking during a Betfair event, the former star revealed that if he could repeat an operation similar to his move from Catalonia to Madrid 25 years ago, his choice would be Pedri as the player he would bring to Los Blancos.

The signing of Luis Figo in 2000, when Real Madrid paid his release clause to secure his services, remains one of the most memorable episodes in European football history. That move was seen as a true betrayal by Barcelona fans and marked a turning point in the rivalry between the clubs.

Now, Figo admits that a transfer involving Pedri would have a similar impact. “Maybe from Barça, Pedri. If it were the other way around, from Real Madrid, it would be Valverde. They are both incredible players, performing at the highest level. They’re reliable and very important to their teams,” he said.

The Portuguese also recalled how his move was considered hugely expensive at the time, with Real Madrid paying €60 million, a fee that today, he admitted, “would almost be considered normal in a market where outrageous sums are paid for average transfers.”

The case of Pedri makes this scenario even more dramatic. The Canary Islander has revealed in several interviews that he was once rejected during trials with Real Madrid, a decision that ultimately led him to shine in a Barcelona shirt. “When I had the trial at Valdebebas it was strange. They told me I wasn’t good enough and I went home,” he confessed recently.

For Figo, that twist of fate could be reversed if Pedri were ever to arrive at the Santiago Bernabéu. “His signing would be as high-profile as mine was,” the former player stated, suggesting that such a move would reignite the eternal battle between Barça and Los Blancos.
