Alessia Russo is one of the most well-rounded forwards in women’s football right now.

Few games better signified just how crucial she is to her respective sides than England’s 4-0 thumping of the Netherlands at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

While the 26-year-old did not get on the scoresheet, she did rack up an impressive hat-trick of assists to tie together their must-win performance.

Whether it is pushing out wide or dropping deep, she has developed a knack for operating in pockets of space that make her particularly effective, allowing her to become one of Sarina Wiegman’s most important players.

EURO 2022 was very much her breakout moment for her nation, but this time around things are vastly different.

No longer is Russo called on from the bench but rather relied upon to lead the line. Thankfully for England’s No.23, pressure is something that evades her.

“I don’t necessarily feel pressure,” she revealed to British GQ.

“You have to be very confident and self-aware, knowing that if a chance comes, you’re going to score it.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of players [who say]: ‘You’re the No.9; this is what you need to demand.’”

After winning the title three years ago, Russo and her teammates are raring to repeat the feat in Switzerland.

On a team level, it’s a chance to make history.

On a personal level, the Arsenal forward is hopeful that their performances on the pitch will keep the sport moving forward.

“One of my passions is keeping girls in sport,” she added.

“I feel I have a responsibility to play well, to keep things moving for women’s football [and] to keep making things better for the next generation.”
