(Contributed photo)MANILA – Philippine Tennis Academy player Tennnielle Madis eliminated No. 10 seed Lee Hyun-yee of South Korea, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, Tuesday in the second round of the Nonthaburi Closed Regional Championships at the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand hard court.Madis, who pulled off a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kimiko Cooper in the first round, reached a career-high No. 208 in the ITF Juniors singles rankings last Monday.The 17-year-old from M'lang, North Cotabato will face No. 6 Kamonwan Yodpetch of Thailand in the third round.Yodpetch, ranked No. 78 in the world juniors, defeated Elizabeth Ivanov of Australia, 7-5, 6-0."Yee played very well, she is No. 105 in the ITF Juniors and Orange Bowl champion. It's a big deal for Tenny to beat her. After losing in the first set, Tenny fought hard to win the match," said PTA head coach Robert Angelo, a SEA Games medalist and a former Davis Cupper.Meanwhile, qualifier Riyo Yoshida ousted No. 15 seed Sarah Mildren of Australia, 6-1, 7-5, to forge a third round duel with second seed Yuhan Wang of China, who prevailed over Ching Laam Lai of Hong Kong, 6-1, 6-3.Top seed Reina Goto of Japan, a 7-6 (3), 6-4 winner over Shihomi Li Xuan of Malaysia, will meet No. 13 seed Zhang-Qian Wei of China, who beat Sim Siyeon, 6-1, 6-4.Also advancing to the third round were fourth seed Renee Alame of Australia, fifth seed Yihan Qu of China and seventh seed Yushan Shao of China.Alame trounced Xiatong Wang of China, 6-2, 6-3; Qu whipped Rianna Alame of Australia, 6-1, 6-2; and Shao clobbered qualifier Riho Goto of Japan, 6-0, 6-4.
